THE RESULTS
after the revolution, Russia exited WWI by signing a peace treaty with Germany called the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. The new government took control of all industry and moved the Russian economy from a rural one to an industrial one. It also seized farmland from landholders and distributed it among the peasants. Women were given equal rights to those of men and religion was banned from many aspects of society.
From 1918 to 1920, after Russia experienced a civil war between the Bolsheviks and the anti- Bolsheviks ( white and red) the bolsheviks won and the new country was called the USSR standing for United Soviet Socialist Republic

POSITIVE OUTCOME
The russian revolution of 1917 had many negative outcomes, but it also had some positive outcomes. One positive outcome is that the Tsar rule comes to an end and gives say to the workers and peasants. This is also a negative effect because communism replaces Tsar's rule. After the revolution Lenin created free education throughout Russia. Children learned communist ideas but they were still educated about the world.

NEGATIVE OUTCOME
The russian revolution had some positive affects but mostly negative. One negative effect was the spread of communism around the world that was the reason for WWII. Another effect was that 15 million people died after the Bolsheviks and anti-bolsheviks sweep Russia. After the revolution, peoples freedom was lost and people couldn't read, write or say whatever they want. People were also restricted to celebrate religion as religious leaders were murdered and churches were destroyed

MY OPINION

I personally believe that the Russian revolution was a gateway to the greatness of communism. I perceived that the Russian Revolution was shaped by powerful forces from both outside and within. The race to become industrialised was a small stone in the pond. The ripples that emanated from that event escalated to the Bolshevik Revolution. Russian pride would not have been served by anything less.

I think the Russian revolution should also be viewed as a product of the social history of Russia, which was itself very brutal and oppressive. The Russian revolution was a reaction to the abuses and terror that was waged against the population by the Tsars. A reaction to the horrible conditions of WWI, in which over a million Russians lost their lives, and a reaction to  a country that had no stability or history of progressive development. To me The most atrocious and irrelevant part of the Russian revolution was the Dumb Tsar who got associated to WWI which then caused the tragic deaths of  Russians, economical, environmental and political effects on Russia.

THE BOLSHEVIK REVOLUTION

Over the next several months two sides ruled Russia. One of the main factions of the petrograd soviet was a group called the Bolsheviks. They were led by Vladimir Lenin and believed that the new Russian government should be a communist government. In October of 1917, Lenin took full contr

ol of the government in what is called the Bolshevik Revolution. Russia was now the first communist country in the world.

THE RED AND THE WHITE
the red and white armies were the Bolsheviks (red) and the anti-communist (whites) they were the two largest forces in the Russian Civil War. The Bolshevik red were organised and commanded by leon trotsky, and were the most powerful force in Russia during the Revolution. They supported Communism and eventually formed Soviet Russia.
Lenin leading the Bolshevik revolution
Russian white army was a loose confederation of anti-Bolsheviks and Anti-communists that worked together to try and stop the Bolshevik uprising in 1917.
Alexander Kolchak was the leader of the white army. He was executed by Bolshevik leaders for his "rebellion"

THE NEW PROVISIONAL GOVERNMENT

The provisional government
The Duma, having been given power in March of 1917 by the Tsar Nicholas II created the provisional Government.
The provisional government did little besides replace the Tsar and continue the war. This system was weak and faced many problems.

The bolsheviks who practiced a form of communism
Alexander Kerensky  Head of Provisional government
, believed that the only an elite group of revolutionary leaders should guide the rest of the country. They offered the people "peace, bread and land" Russian leaders appointed  group of moderate reformers, to set a provision government, headed by Alexander Kerensky.
However, discontent kept growing because:

  1. In spite of calls for peace, Kerensky let Russia
  2. continue the war Food prices rose even higher
November 1917 the Bolsheviks who was headed by Lenin took power under the skilful leadership of Leon Trotsky, Lenins right hand, The Bolsheviks military units, including the workers red guards.
The provisional government was arrested at its headquarters in the Winter Palace.

MARCH REVOLUTION
The people of Russia first revolted in early 1917. The revolution began when a number of workers decided to strike. Many of these workers got together during the strike to discuss politics. They began to riot. The Tsar ( Nicholas II) ordered the army to suppress the riot. However, many of the soldiers refused to fire on the people of Russia and the army began to mutiny against the Tsar

After a few days of riot by the people of Russia, the army turned against the Tsar. The Tsar was forced to give up his throne and a new government took over. The government was run by two political parties: The Petrograd Soviet which was representing the workers and soldiers and the Provisional Government which was the traditional government of Russia without the Tsar

The people of Russia Rioting

WHY WERE THE PEOPLE OF RUSSIA RIOTING ?

  1. cruel treatment of the peasants
  2. low quality working conditions
  3. food shortages
  4. military failures (due to WW1)
  5. Economic changes ( due to WW1)
  6.  Dissatisfaction of the people for the Tsar and his way of ruling the empire
  7. Starvation
  8. industry
  9.  Agriculture
  10.  Value of money

The Russian Revolution:
The Russian Revolution was a revolution based on two primarily events: The February revolution and the October revolution. The Russian Revolution occurred mainly because of World War I , because it had killed most of Russian army. Tsar's mistakes was another cause in the revolution. When he took over the army, he was blamed for the defeats. The army man were fed up and decided to leave Tsar.

Bloody Sunday :

what led to bloody Sunday?:
  • bad working conditions for industrial labourers
    BLOODY SUNDAY
  • An economic recession
  • decrease in calories of labourers
  • increased price for essential goods
all these points led to the happening of bloody Sunday, Workers went on strike and held demonstrations, street fightings were happening in non- populated Russian areas and Tsar ordered his troops to group open fires on the protesting crowd.

How did Bloody Sunday affect the government and how did the people of Russia view Tsar?
  • hundreds get killed from a peaceful protest
  • people view czar in much different (worse) way
  • affected Russian government by making them make changes

How did Tsar Nicholas II survive?
I personally think the most significant reason why Nicholas II survived the revolution was having the lack of leadership, organisation and unity at the time the revolution took place.

World War I =

MAIN background causes:
  1. Militarism: Glorification of the military arms race.. competition between countries to build up military powers. Both England and Germany had strong army's
  2. Alliances: Friendship between Nations formed because of fear and jealousy. Germany,Austria and Hungary known as the "Triple Alliance" and France, Great Britain and Russia known as the "Triple Entente"
  3. Imperialism:  Competition between countries over colonies because of the new markets in the African Empires and the Raw materials needed for industrialisation
  4. Nationalism: The pride and loyalty to there country had regional/border conflicts, Also Germany and France fought over Alsace Lorrain. Lastly the multinational Empires like Austria, Hungary and Ottoman empire feared Nationalism.
How did it all start?
In the Late July of 1914, The promise that Germany will support Austria-Hungarians to take over serbia and portions of the balkans. Russia's reason to joining the war was because of the long time alliance between Russia and Serbia . This influenced Other Nations to take part and the alliances formed which started WWI. Russia suffered great losses and had internal conflicts, ultimately causing them to leave the war. Russia went from being an autocracy run by Tsar Nicholas II to a communist government led by Lenin.

 How did WWI effect Russia?
  •  WWI weakened the Russian Government
  • Mismanagement of the war
  • Lost control of the country
  • Russian failure in the war and social unrest led to the Russian Revolution
  • Lead people to turn against Tsar

My opinion=
I think Russia should have not associated with there allies because they couldn't afford losing all the industries which were suffering including grain, coal and oil. They should have learned that although they had the biggest army, it definitely wasn't the strongest. I think they deserved all the suffering because WWI didn't teach them anything, after the war they had a civil war inside Russia and then later joined WWI.  It should have taught the lesson of not to get into a war they can't afford, because after WWI  they were in a sticky position.

Tsar Nicholas II

What was the Russian Revolution?

The Russian Revolution took place in 1917 when the peasants and working class people of Russia revolted against the government of Tsar Nicholas II. They were lead by Vladimir Lenin and a group of revolutionaries called the Bolsheviks. The new communist government created the country of the Soviet union.

 Background Information:

His family:

Nicholas was born in St. Petersburg on May 6, 1868 he was the eldest son of Tsar Alexander III . When he succeeded his father in 1849, he had very little experience of government. In the same year, Nicholas married Princess Alexandra of Hesse- Darmstadt of Germany. They had four kids, three girls and one boy

Before the revolution, Russia, was ruled by a powerful monarch called the Tsar meaning emperor . The tsar had total power and control in Russia. He commanded the army, owned much of the land and even controlled the church at the time.

During the period of time before the Russian Revolution, Life for the working class people and peasants was very difficult. They worked for little pay, often went without food, and were exposed to dangerous working conditions. The aristocrat class rates the peasants like slaves, giving them few rights under the law and treated them almost like animals .
